What is community planning
?
Community Planning is a process that involves
the Council working with local partners and local people to
plan and provide services that better meet the needs of South Lanarkshire's
communities.

|
Which
public bodies will be involved in South Lanarkshire?
The Community Plan was prepared by the main community planning
partners who are, South Lanarkshire Council, Scottish Enterprise
Lanarkshire, Lanarkshire and Greater Glasgow Health Boards, Scottish
Homes and Strathclyde Police. However, a wider range of organisations
were involved in developing the Themes and the actions outlined
in the plan.

Who manages the process?
The Scottish Executive has
given local government the leadership role in Community Planning.
In South Lanarkshire, however, the process is managed by the South
Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership, a group set up to give
strategic direction to the Plan.

|
What does community planning
intend to do ?
It intends to build a better South Lanarkshire,
with communities that are:
-
Successful and Inclusive Communities
-
Safe and Healthy Communities
-
Working and Learning Communities
The Partners involved in community planning are
committed to working in Partnership to deliver the most efficient
and highest quality services to individuals, communities and businesses
in South Lanarkshire.

|
Will a plan be prepared for
my local area ?
Community Planning is not about preparing land use plans for individual
communities, although the name might lead one to expect that it
is. It is about the major public sector organisations identifying
priorities for the next 5 to10 years and involving the community
in that discussion. In South Lanarkshire we have tried to be innovative
in involving the community in the debate through, citizen's panels
community conferences and focus groups.
