South Lanarkshire Greenspace has operated since April 2002.
It operates through an Area Partnership between South Lanarkshire
Council and the Glasgow & Clyde Valley Greenspace Trust.
The Project's Aims are:-
“to deliver an improved, valued and sustainable
environment for people and wildlife, achieved using best practice,
through partnership and working with communities. Through all its
activities, SL Greenspace will develop and encourage the sustainable
use and management of greenspace and natural heritage.” The objectives are to: -
- Strengthen and improve landscape structure and
amenity by undertaking environmental improvements, including
restoration of derelict land, in and around the main towns
and villages of South Lanarkshire .
- Improve access to greenspace and the urban fringe
countryside, creating path networks as set out in the Outdoor
Access Strategy, and links to longer distance routes.
- Develop and promote biodiversity, by conserving
and enhancing wildlife habitats and species, consistent with
the Local Biodiversity Action Plan.
- Raise public awareness of the environment and
community health, encourage the involvement of all types
of communities with these issues, and promote environmental
employment and training.
The staff are responsible for managing and driving forward a programme
of work over a wide area, involving substantial resources and effort.
They represent the SL Greenspace Area Partnership to a wide range
of other Council staff and members, communities, voluntary groups,
and agencies.
