Mission Statement

South Lanarkshire Local Agenda 21 Partnership is committed to achieving a sustainable environment and an improved quality of life for both present and future generations.

Key Aims

The Partnership is committed to action that will lead to: -

Attractive and accessible environments that will provide a better quality of life throughout South Lanarkshire by;

  • Eliminating unnecessary waste production and disposal to landfill;
  • Efficient usage of energy and the elimination of fuel poverty;
  • Responsible and sustainable travel patterns.

Remit and Terms of Reference

The partnership will develop, manage and monitor a Local Agenda 21 process for South Lanarkshire. It will:

  1. Identify priority LA21 action issues;
  2. Establish processes for engaging community groups in the LA21 process;
  3. Develop an LA21 Partnership Strategy;
  4. Publish annual action plans to support the aims of the strategy;
  5. Conduct an annual review of progress on LA21 action priorities;
  6. Develop indicators and reporting mechanisms;
  7. Identify potential sources of funding and support for LA21 action;
  8. Promote and publicise LA21 through a variety of means including the internet;
  9. Link with other community planning partnerships with a view to developing complimentary action;
  10. Ensure that action on LA21 issues in South Lanarkshire is linked into national guidance and relevant legislation.
