Community SafetyWorking Together to Create Safer Communities
Community Safety has been defined as "protecting people's right to live in confidence and without fear for their own or other people's safety". Our aim is to support the development and continuation of an effective partnership culture within the organisations involved in Community Safety; to help improve the quality of planning and delivery of services to generate a greater awareness of the issues involved in Community Safety. Community Safety's strategic objectives are:
The Community Safety Partnership addresses issues such as tackling crime, disorder, antisocial behaviour, and the fear of crime, together with measures to address all aspects of personal safety e.g. in the home, on the road and in the local community. Community Safety also connects effectively with other key policy areas such as social inclusion, health improvement and economic regeneration. As a result of the recent Best Value Review, consultation and audit processes, the Partnership has adopted a renewed strategic and integrated approach, which has led to the development of three main action themes:
Although each theme has two or three sub themes the range of activity will relate directly to achieving our key objectives. Whilst the developments of many actions are led by other agencies and partners, it is appropriate to highlight some of the partnership's activities specifically led by the Community Safety Unit based within Community Resources.
