Community Safety Partnership - a brighter future

Community Safety has been defined as "protecting people's right to live in confidence and without fear for their own or other people's safety".

Community Safety is dedicated to the promotion of Public Reassurance within South Lanarkshire. It is a strategic priority for a range of partners who can collectively build safer, more inclusive, healthier, vibrant and economically attractive communities. Partners come from other public agencies, Local Authority Services, Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue and local Health Boards.

Community Safety is already well established in Scotland and partnerships have worked hard to build the skills, knowledge and expertise needed to not only tackle crime but to reduce the fear of crime in our communities.

Our aim is to support the development and continuation of an effective partnership culture within the organisations involved in Community Safety; to help improve the quality of planning and delivery of services to generate a greater awareness of the issues involved in Community Safety.

Community Safety's strategic objectives are:

  • the monitoring and understanding of local concerns/priorities
  • reducing fear of crime and improving sense of security
  • reducing anti social behaviour
  • increasing quality of life
  • increasing levels of community involvement

The Community Safety Partnership addresses issues such as tackling crime, disorder, antisocial behaviour, and the fear of crime, together with measures to address all aspects of personal safety e.g. in the home, on the road and in the local community. Community Safety also connects effectively with other key policy areas such as social inclusion, health improvement and economic regeneration.

As a result of the recent Best Value Review, consultation and audit processes, the Partnership has adopted a renewed strategic and integrated approach, which has led to the development of three main action themes:

  • Safer Environments
  • Community Wellbeing
  • Problem Solving/Anti Social Behaviour

Although each theme has two or three sub themes the range of activity will relate directly to achieving our key objectives.

Whilst the developments of many actions are led by other agencies and partners, it is appropriate to highlight some of the partnership's activities specifically led by the Community Safety Unit based within Community Resources. Click on the links above to view these.
