South Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership

Health and Care Partnership

The Health and Care partnership was set up in 2002 to work with officers and communities across South Lanarkshire to improve health and reduce health inequalities. While a great deal of progress has been made across a number of areas, health in South Lanarkshire still needs to improve both compared with Scotland and with countries in other parts of Europe.

Membership

  • South Lanarkshire Council
  • Lanarkshire NHS Board
  • Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board
  • South Community Health Partnership
  • Representatives of Users and carers

Main priorities

The partnership oversees and co-ordinates work to improve health through:

  • Promoting healthy lifestyles and
  • Improving life circumstances and reducing inequalities

The partnership is pursuing a number of key priorities under the lifestyle heading in line with local and national priorities. They are:

  • Smoking
  • Diet
  • Physical activity
  • Alcohol
  • Mental health

These sit within the overarching theme of reducing inequalities.

The partnership strategic document is the Joint Health Improvement Plan. Since the development of the current plan (2003/04 – 2006/07 and now extended to 2007/08) health improvement has become a truly cross cutting theme and is a priority for several partnerships across community planning. During 2007 a new plan will be drafted which brings together the health improvement aims and objectives of all the community planning themes into a single strategic framework.
