South Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership

Developing The New Joint Health Improvement Plan

Work has started on the development of a new Joint Health Improvement Plan. This plan will have a far greater focus on health outcomes and on the impact and benefit of our activity. A process of engagement with stakeholders, including members of the community, will be a central part of the development of the plan.

Key points about this plan:

  • It will be outcome focused and all partners will have a clear idea of how they contribute to each of the stated health improvement outcomes in the plan.
  • It will focus on a small number of key objectives.
  • Actions should show the added value of partnership and not merely repeat actions from other plans.
  • A clear monitoring framework will be developed.
  • It will apply across the seven themed partnerships of Community Planning and not simply be a plan under Health and Care.

Our work began with a community planning consultation event on 4 April 2007. Over 100 people from partner agencies, voluntary organisations and community groups attended the event. The conference report has now been issued. One of the major talking points of the event was a presentation by Dr Carol Tannahill of the Glasgow Centre for Population Health. You can find out more about the Centre for Population Health by clicking on www.gcph.co.uk

Work on the JHIP will continue over the summer and a full consultative draft will be issued in the autumn. This will be posted on the website and all comments will be considered.
